BIOGRAPHY
Gertrude Létourneau, flutist and singer, has performed across Canada for audiences of all ages. She plays regularly with guitarist Garry Elliott. They released their CD “Habanera” in March 2009. They have presented concerts in various venues in the Ottawa area including Almonte in Concert, the National Arts Centre, Les Concerts Duhamelois, Les Concerts Ponticello, Cleary Hall, St.Lukes and Glebe St.James Concert Series and at La Galerie d’Art in Montebello.
Since 2000, Gertrude has been a musician at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre in Ottawa. She uses a wide variety of music such as classical, Celtic and moving songs from 1930-1950 to engage her audiences in the performances. You’ll be enchanted by Gertrude’s versatility. Her considerable experience as a performer, communicator and teacher allows her to draw from a wide range of skills as she takes the audience on a musical journey that will energize them and touch their hearts.
In August, she will be presenting her new concert entitled “Waiting for you…” a tribute to the wives of our veterans. In the past few years, she has presented concerts and recitals in such venues as the National Arts Centre, the Canadian War Museum and the Almonte Town Hall. Gertrude has been heard on the radio numerous times, including a CBC concert, with “The Chris Norman Ensemble”. In 2005, she released her first solo CD, “histoires d’amour…”. In November 2008, she was a guest musician in the National Arts Centre Orchestra Western Tour. In 2009, Ms Létourneau performed with pianist Peter Tiefenbach a concert of songs and music of 1939-45 called Remember…Souviens-toi… at the National Arts Centre, the Canadian War Museum and various Veterans’ homes in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and London, Ontario. Gertrude Létourneau obtained a Bachelor degree in Music from the University of Ottawa, a Master’s degree in Performance from the Université de Montréal and a Licentiate in Performance and Communication Skills from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London England. She also studied the flute with Geoffrey Gilbert in Florida.

Originaire de Saint-Césaire, au Québec, Gertrude Létourneau, flûtiste et chanteuse est une des interprètes les plus polyvalentes de sa génération. Elle a présenté des concerts à des auditoires de tout âge à travers le Canada. En 2007, elle s’associe avec le guitariste Garry Elliott avec qui elle se produit dans plusieurs séries de concerts dans la région d’Ottawa dont Almonte in Concert Series, au Centre national des arts, au Centre d’art de Montebello, Cleary Hall, Glebe St. James United Church, St.Lukes Anglican Church et pour Les Concerts Ponticello. En 2009, ils ont enregistré leur premier disque compact qui s’intitule « Habanera ».
En 2005, elle a lancé son premier disque compact solo intitulé Histoires d’amour… Nous avons pu entendre Gertrude à plusieurs reprises à la radio, dont lors d’un concert donné pour Almonte in Concert diffusé sur les ondes de CBC Radio Two avec le groupe de renommée internationale, The Chris Norman Ensemble. En Novembre 2008, elle était musicienne invitée avec des musiciens de l’Orchestre du Centre national des arts lors de leur tournée dans l’ouest canadien.
Depuis novembre 2000, Gertrude travaille comme musicienne au Centre de santé Perley Rideau pour anciens combattants à Ottawa. Elle y a développé un vaste répertoire allant de la musique classique à la musique folklorique, en passant par les émouvantes chansons des années 30 à 50. Elle y joue différentes flûtes, le piano et elle chante. Gertrude a obtenu un baccalauréat en musique de l’Université d’Ottawa et une maîtrise en interprétation de l’Université de Montréal. Par la suite, elle a exploité divers aspects de l’interprétation et de la communication grâce à deux programmes innovateurs : le Musical Performance and Communication Program à Toronto et le Performance and Communication Skills Program au Guildhall School of Music and Drama à Londres. Elle a aussi étudié la flûte avec le maître Geoffrey Gilbert en Floride.
